Another view of Eritrea

This Monday, the so called independent media sources' dependency was once again demonstrated. I counted to almost 20 of the internationally most influential media agenices publishing an identical and very brief text claiming "armed mutineers seized the information ministry in Asmara, Eritrea". On Tuesday the same media sources announced that the "calm had returned to Asmara".

The identical reporting and very often publishing of the exact same text based on the same sources, mainly based outside the concerned region, proves once again that all media sources are dependent, in this case of each other, and that it's your responsibility as a reader to search for a more nuanced view of the story.

It's a fact that news reporting from Eritrea is restricted. However, it's also a fact that many voices trying to be heard from within the country are often denied being internationally published due to their alleged proximity to the regime. Once again, I do believe that both sides must be heard, as in all fair debates, and that it's your responsibility as a media consumer to form your own opinion based on all, and I mean all, information provided.

If you, like me, are tired of the independent media's dependency, see http://longlivehumania.blogspot.se for another view of a current life in Eritrea.

This is fascinating. Really concise post that opens up as you think about it and raises huge questions. Urgent - but gets you to do the work. Makes me realize I must research more. More substantial to follow via Luvit Stina, but thank you for the link. I'm going to learn a lot here and really get the chance to - follow those paths.
